Facts
- The Aedes mosquito species transmits Dengue, Chikungunya and the Zika virus.
- They are strong fliers, capable of travelling great distances (up to 121 km) from their breeding sites.
- They persistently bite mammals (especially humans), primarily during the day, but they can also bite at night in well-lit areas.
- Typical breeding habitats for include artificial or natural water containers/bodies such as flower pots, clogged roof gutters and household water storage containers.
