
Rice Weevil (Sitophilus Oryzae)
Facts
- Adults are able to fly.
- They can live for 4 to 5 months.
- Females can lay about 4 eggs daily and up to 300 - 400 eggs over their lifetime.
- Females lay the eggs inside the grain, where larva and pupa stages will occur. Once developed, the weevil bores its way out leaving a hole in the grain.
- Optimum development takes place between 26 to 30oC at a relative humidity of 70%.
